Default family tree DNA

Has anyone used this site and if so have you had any problems?

I'm thinking of getting Dad to do a Y DNA test but don't want to have any problems.

I downloaded my raw DNA data from Ancestry and uploaded it to FTDNA for free. I later paid for some extra features, such as being able to use the chromosome browser. I wouldn't say I have had problems with it exactly, but when it says you have an "X match", you do have to look on the chromosome browser to see how big the matching segment is as some of them are very small and not significant. Also, when they find a DNA match over whatever their minimum is, they then add all other matching segments, however tiny, to the total, so their figure for matching cM's tends to be over-inflated.

But I haven't had any male relative do the Y-DNA test on there. I think it is generally agreed to be the site where you get that test, though. I haven't heard of other people having problems with it.

Thanks Kate. I might upload the raw data and see what happens while I save the the Y DNA test.

I tested with FT DNA but only found a few matches that I can figure out. Only one other of my Dad's family when there are over 50 on Ancestry. One or two families on Mums side. I think most of the matches are American and our MRCA is too far back.

Late to reply to this, but in case it is still relevant:
I was persuaded to take a DNA test through familytreeDNA.com by a Dutchman named Ralph Ravestijn, who I met through the internet and who figured out that his great grandmother (of mixed English/Chinese/Indonesian ancestry) was my 4th cousin, twice over.
When my results came back, the closest match was to Ralph's father, thereby proving the fidelity of all the women in both our families . He has written an article about the importance of DNA evidence in genealogical research, unfortunately in Dutch,

Surely it only proved that particular line was correct, not all lines in your trees?
