Looks like the best way to get her maiden name would be to get a birth certificate for one of the children.

Yes of course It's not until I post these things and go through stuff that I realise there are missing names that could be found another way.

Having looked at their childrens births after 1837 they have such common names it might be hard to pick them out.

There's a marriage at St Dunstan Stepney worth looking into - Samuel Brooks and Elizabeth Peters in 1822. Both are of Mile End New Town and one of the witnesses is Robert Peters.

Maggie - I don't know if you noticed but Samuel the son isn't baptised until he's nine and on the same day an Elizabeth Mary Brooks is baptised - her father John is also a scale maker

I have looked at that so many times and I think that is them but his son Samuel Brooks Junior married a Elizabeth Peters what's the chances of that unless she was his first cousin which I'll have to look into.

If some of my lot in this area are anything to go by, it's quite possible - despite having the whole of East London to marry, they generally found someone who was connected somewhere. I know this are quite well so will try to have a look into them when I get some time tomorrow.

There was one birth reg that I spotted but I can't remember the details now, will have a look later as I have to get off the computer again in a minute. (I think it was a child who was a baby on one of the censuses?)

Thanks I've spotted a few that I think are right I was going for registration district Bethnal Green but some of the children were baptised at St Leonards in Shoreditch and one in a definite West Hackney church which falls under Hackney not Tower Hemlets but mostly lived in Bethnal Green so I suppose the church you went to for baptisms had no bearing on legalities like boroughs and borders.

What I think I'll do this afternoon is follow up her son Samuel Brook junior's wife Elizabeth Peters see if she might be connected into the Elizabeth Peters on that marriage.
