There are quite a few trees around with William's wife as Mary Crosbee, and that marriage is on the IGI. However as it's in Birmingham and there is a baptism for Mary Crosbee in Birmingham, I've discounted it. "My" Mary gives her birthplace as Essex in 1841, as does William. I think someone has found the marriage on the IGI and taken it as ours.

I abhor those trees that pick up a marriage in a far-distant place for no apparent reason.

My OH's tree has a marriage in Frant Sussex, when they lived all their lives in Speldhurst Kent - I was suspiscious until I looked at a map - Frant and Speldhurst both are practically on the Kent-Sussex border, so it was not all that far to go. And it was a second marriage of the bride to a younger man so maybe they did not want all the village looking on.

But I think you're right, why would they have gone from Essex to Birmingham ? Now somewhere in London I could understand.

Di,

Essex is shocking for online records, so maybe when more become available I'll find it.
