Thanks Julie - no I've never seen any sign of that this end. He was in Beccles & Norwich gaols mostly for deserting his family although once he did desert the navy but he seems to have been forgiven for that as it happened before my gg-gm was born in 1811.

Just as well eh .. A convict ancestor of Peter's - Mary Callow came from Norwich, Norfolk. She used some aliases, not quite sure why because they seemed to follow her!
