There are a number of public trees on Ancestry referring to a Leah Jones, b abt 1786 in Whitechapel. Parents: Samuel (shipwright) and Eleanor Jones. Husband: Joseph Isaacs (1781-1846). Children: Sarah (b 1818), Ester (b 1821), Moses (1824-1906) and Julia (b 1825). Moses appears to have been convicted of stealing a hankie and was transported to Australia. If the tree is accurate, he came back to the UK, as he died in Cable Street.

Thank you for that Shona. The name Julia is unusual enough for me to think this might be right, although Jones doesn't sound like a Jewish name to me. Of course the problem with public trees is they often repeat the same info without any actual documentary evidence. I'll look into it and thank you for your interest.

I read somewhere that Johansohn can become Jones in Ashkenazi communities.
