Default Elizabeth Cohen Joel 1790?-1841? London

Elizabeth was Jewish, so no baptism. I'm not sure now where I found Cohen!

Marriage would be by Jewish rites and probably around 1819. Not yet found.

1841 HO107/0725/1/~F10 East London without Walls
Joel Daniel 50
Joel Elizabeth 50
Joel Mary 20
Sarah 18
Jacob 16
Luce 11
Julia 11
Solomon 9
Amelia 7
Jacob 5
Rachael 3
Abraham 8 months [cannot be Elizabeth's unless ages wildly out! Maybe illegitimate child of daughters, or a grandson for son no longer living at home?

possible death:

OR

Elizabeth Joel 1841 Dec Hackney : 3 Page: 1* [image looks like 111]

I don't see why Abraham can't be Elizabeth's son if she was born 1790? It has been known for women of 50 to have a baby.

Someone on ancestry has the family in their tree with marriage date given as 18 Mar 1819 at "New Synagogue". Might be worth contacting them to see if they have more information? Also they have her on the 1851 census as Betsy Joel in Romford, Essex, with Amelia 17, John 16, Abraham 9 and Betsey 2, and in 1861 still in Romford with husband Daniel, and have her dying in 1861. Have you looked at that before and found it to be a different family, or could it be her? Birthplace is Spitalfields.

1851 census:
High Street, Romford
Betsey Joel Head Mar 54 Fishmonger Middx Spitalfields
Amelia Do Daur Un 17 Do Do
John Do Son Un 16 Do Do
Abraham Do Son 9 Do Aldgate
Betsey Do Granddaur 2 Essex Romford

and 1861:
Waterloo Road, Romford
Daniel Joel Head Mar 69 Fishmonger Middlesex Spitalfields
Elizabeth Do Wife Mar 65 Do Do
Elizabeth Do Granddr Un 12 Scholar Essex Romford.

Oh, looking at your thread about your ancestor Mary Joel, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth, you say on there that Daniel was a fishmonger, so surely that family in Romford has to be the right one?

As ever I'm in awe of your efficiency and skill! I will have to fish out (no pun intended) my notes on them. The problem is that Joel is a very common Jewish surname and fishmongering was a very common Jewish occupation.

Thanks for your posts I'll be investigating them asap.
