Wilfrid Joseph H Rickatson
Whom did he marry in Dublin in 1901?
I have found this marriage for Wilfird: Name: Wilfred Joseph H Rickatson Event Type: Marriage Event Date: Oct - Dec 1901 Event Place: Dublin South, Ireland Registration Quarter and Year: Oct - Dec 1901 Registration District: Dublin South Age: Birth Year (Estimated): Mother's Maiden Name: Volume Number: 2 Page Number: 613 GS Film number: 101259 Digital Folder Number: 004195895 Image Number: 00582 These are the other people listed: Name Howard George Allcock Margaret Josephine Myers John Hugh Moses Montgomery Bertha Eugenie Amanda Gardiner Elizabeth Radford Bertha E A Fletcher Alfred Meeson Wilfrid was born in 1879 in Stratford-upon-Avon. In 1901 he was in prison in Dorset. In 1911 he is with his "wife" Alice and step-daughter Doris Dexter in Birmingham. I haven't found a marriage for them but they state they have been married 2 years. Then I found the 1901 marriage! He's only a twig on my tree, but I'm going through all the women for whom I have no maiden names and trying to find their marriages. |

I can't find a death for Alice Rickatson, but I did find one for Alice M Dexter:
Civil Registration event: Death Print Close Name: DEXTER, Alice M Registration district: Birmingham County: Warwickshire Year of registration: 1968 Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Age at death: 88 Volume no: 9C Page no: 408 On the 1911 Census Alice Rickatson was 32 (i.e. born c. 1879) so it could be her. Wilfrid died in 1949. |

Assuming the two Bertha entries are for the same person, isn't there a missing woman (or one too many men)?

Alfred Meeson on the 1901 Irish census is a "Soldier S I M"(?) age 32 born England, boarding in Wexford with a family called Murphy, if I have the right Alfred. But I can't find a birth for him around 1868-9 nor find him on the English censuses. Not much help, sorry!

Bertha Eugenie Amanda Allcock, wife of George Howard Allcock, is listed in the England & Wales National Probate Calendar for 1932. Also there is a possible marriage for Bertha Eugenia A Fletcher to Henry Andrew C Gardiner in Liverpool in 1881, so both Berthas do look like the same person.

On the 1911 Irish census a John H Montgomery, 36, house painter, married, born Dublin City, is boarding with a family in Knockycosker, Ballynagore, County Westmeath, but his wife isn't there. He is a Wesleyan Methodist. There is a John Montgomery, house painter, 24, unmarried, born Dublin City, in Dublin on the 1901 census who could be him. But not much help till we find his wife!

Well, there is a Margaret Montgomery in Dublin in 1911 who has been married for 9 years, age 35, born Co Clare, 1 child, John age 4 born Co Dublin, and there is a John Hugh Montgomery birth in 1906 in Dublin South, but this is all rather tenuous! She is Catholic and her son is Church of Ireland. Their address is Mountpleasant Buildings, Rathmines & Rathgar East, Dublin, just in case we can find evidence of a John Hugh Moses Montgomery living there!

Kate, thanks for looking so hard.
Wilfrid Rickatson seems rather a mystery in his actions. I did a newspaper search and couldn't find him for his misdemeanor that landed him in prison in 1901. With a name like Wilfrid Joseph Henry Rickatson it must be his marriage! I wonder what he was doing in Dublin? |
