Is there anyone out there would would be willing to help me please? I need a search of the Chester le Street Workhouse records (if they still exist) for 1872. One of my exalted ancestors died there of severe alcoholism!!!

This is what they have:
Records •Durham County Record Office, County Hall, Durham DH1 5UL. A variety of union records survive, though little relating to workhouse inmates. Holdings include Guardians' minutes (1840-1930, with gaps). from this page: users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/ChesterLeStreet/ChesterLeStreet.shtml

Try emailing the record office and asking them. Some charge but some look up quick things if you have the dates for nothing. It's worth a try.
