Help finding this place in Scotland please
Class: RG9; Piece: 318; Folio: 109; Page: 67; GSU roll: 542613.
1861 census David ROSE b approx 1805-1816 in Scotland, I can't read where though! I also can't find any marriage for him to Matilda either, she was born in Bermondsey in 1816 approx. Can anyone help please?

Well, his age is definitely given as 56 which would mean he was born 1804-5, but I haven't figured out the placename yet!

I'm wondering whether the first bit is an attempt at Morayshire, but if so then the nearest parish name I can find to the second bit is Rafford. The first letter looks like an N rather than an R, though, but I suppose the enumerator could have copied it out wrong.

Kite here they are in 1851:
Class: HO107; Piece: 1561; Folio: 138; Page: 6; GSU roll: 174794. He seems to have lost a few years off his age by then lol! Does that help at all?

Ancestry isn't loading for me on the laptop at the moment, Joan, so I can't look at that page at the moment, but I have managed to find a baptism on the IGI for a David Rose, born 22 June 1806 and baptised 28 June 1806 at Rafford, parents David Rose and Christian Macintosh. Did your David have a daughter called Christian at all?

Hi Kite
Not that I can find at the moment, sorry I wonder if that one could be him then?

Maybe, but it would seem more likely if he named a daughter Christian!

Kite his place of birth on the 1851 looks more like Burnsford rather than Rafford?
What do you think?

Looks like N Burnsford, but at least the county is definitely given as Morayshire on that one. From what I can make out from Google, Burnsford is near (or in?) Deskford, which isn't very near Rafford. I'll have another look...

I can't work out what parish Burnsford was in around 1810, might have to return to it later, sorry.
