There is a Matthew Mellor of Longnor, Staffordshire, joiner etc who had an apprentice (named John Billinge) in 1796 on ancestry's apprenticeship records. I wonder whether he could be the father or uncle of your Matthew?

I wasn't as clever as Kate, but I did see another Mellor from Longnor on the 1851/61 census (forgotten) in London. Don't have time to look again now......

Thanks, Kite - I've tried to find a connection with the Longnor ones before but hadn't tried the apprenticeship things - there's another Mellor apprenticed to a joiner from Longnor in 1806 or something.

Merry, that's Benjamin - he's in Pancras as well. I've also got the one witness to the marriage being a Mellor so I'm hoping something is going to pop up somehwere!

I can't get FS to work at the moment :s

There are two Matthews baptised at Longnor in the time period - Dec 1793 and Mar 1794, sons of Matthew and William. Hmmmmm. I'll have to ask the researcher for a bt of help:-)

Thanks for having a look Merry - I suspect the other Matthew is here in 1851 - Piece: 2129; Folio: 193; Page: 17 - only 3 years out but there's nothing to indicate he's one or the other :s
