I liked the fact that they focussed on Taunton because my ancestor Sir Nathaniel Hodges is supposed to have been educated at a Dissenting academy there, though a few decades after the Civil War, but maybe his grandparents were there at the time of the siege, I haven't got back that far yet. Also I liked them visiting Aachen because I went there a few times as a child. But Charlemagne seemed too far back for there to be any connection with Cindy really.

We watched it this evening, I too thought there were a few leaps in generations and no proof to back it up.

I can thoroughly recommend Yallands farmhouse B & B, if you are meaning Taunton in Somerset. Yallands is now on the outskirts of Taunton and is only about four blocks from the new Record Office. Their RO is extremely well organised and has an excellent card system and many readers etc. I found they had a much more user friendly system than some of the other ROs. Julie

My feelings exactly Marg. It reminded me of some trees I've come across on the internet! How were they so sure that the man who served in the Civil War and married in Taunton was the same one who was her ancestor and had been in America? And, as usual, there was the warm and fuzzy assumption that he "cared about his men" because he had signed the petition for a pension. That was probably just the procedure that had to be gone through - red tape ,even then!

There is some info about Thomas Trowbridge in this book, but I can't remember what the line of descent was from him down to Cindy now as they rushed through it so fast:
