I'm rarely matching on any trees via GR, Ancestry, TP etc anyway, any worthwhile matches I've pretty much chased up but there don't seem to be many people who are researching my main lines and the distant ones are usually distant on other trees so nothing comes of the link........they are usually based on census returns in the other trees whereas at least I look for bmd's and baptisms and not just assume the census relationship to be correct.

Ah but, we aren't talking GR Ancestry etc. We are talking about people finding genuine ancestors here. (Though I have to confess that the fh gene patently does not exist in every branch of the family.)

Yes, because anyone googling more than one variant will be much nmore likely to find you. However, I wouldn't join them up with forward slashes, because I don't know how that would effect the google search. If it were me I'd either do all completely separate entries or maybe all the ones beginning with I in one entry

Ibbot or Ibbott

and then another entry for the Hs and another for the Es!

Realistically, until the database gets a lot bigger we are unlikely to find proper matches for our surnames, but there's a much greater chance of finding matches for others researching the same place and with that, high levels of expertise which may help others.
