Surname Database
As you know, we added a new Surname Database to the site at the beginning of November.
In the seven weeks it's been live, over 1,000 entries have been added by members which is a fantastic start! We have decided to have a counter showing the number of entries added to the database. You will see the counter displaying the current number of entries further up this page alongside the link to the Surname Database If you click the link you will also see the number showing on the initial database page. The number is live, so if you add (or remove!) an entry the number updates immediately. Now, 1,000+ entries is great, but the more names that are included the greater the chance of finding name matches and other members researching the same places as you are. There's also the chance people will find you through google searches too........so, we need more names to be added!!! I wonder what the number will read by 1st Jan 2014??

I then asked it for a list of all surnames on the tree (about 700), compiled a list of the ones of most interest to me ad added those to the first ists. Doing that and then adding them all to the database took about an hour. I didn't add every surname I have on the tree!

Very true!!
The number has crept up from 1052 when I first saw it yesterday. Before that we hadn't had a new entry for at least a week.
