Watched this, this afternoon. Interesting but feel some assumptions were made.

I won't say anymore as I don't want to create spoilers.

Well, that was a very emotional episode!

As for assumptions, they assumed that Lavina had bought the burial plot for Bob, but it looked more likely to me that Lavina's father, Ovid Shaw, bought it for all of them?

I would have liked them to show us the marriage certificate and any newspaper notices etc for Lavina's marriage to Charles Walton. How long was she married to him? When did he die?

Also it would have been interesting to know whether Bob's father (Paul Applegate) served in WW2 as that was when all this was going on? Did they say what his job was?

I was interested to see how much information they got from searching old New Jersey newspapers on the computer, because I have never found much relating to my NJ relatives that way at all, and there are not many NJ BMD records or indexes online so it could be useful. I wish they had said what website(s) they were using! Hopefully not just a system that you can only access from the NJ State Library?

Here are Paul and Lavina listed in a 1942 city directory for Wilmington, Delaware, but you will need an ancestry world sub to view it:
1942 directory

Paul's job is machinist.

I know I saw that on a record during the programme - it may well have been Bob's birth certificate.

Edit to say: I thought they were making an assumption by saying that Paul and Lavina weren't living together at the time of Bob's birth because the birthplace on his certificate was Lavina's parents' address. We all know how common it was for girls (and Lavina was very young) to go home to their parents for the birth of a first baby.

This is very interesting, and it reminds me how annoying I found it when we never got to hear Bob's story about why he thought he was older than he really was:

That annoyed me too. They seemed to cut him off mid sentence.
