Have you found them on all the censuses, Rachel? And have you got a date and place for the marriage? There is one on FamilySearch 4 Aug 1823 Rossington, Yorkshire.

Hi Kate
Thank you for the possible marriage.
I've not looked at these people for quite a while and guess I must have found them on a census but that info's not on my tree and I don't have Ancestry at present ~ just the 1911 census from FMP.

I have three children all born in Sheffield :

Maria Sutton Oates ~ 17 March 1829
Anne Sutton Oates ~ 25 April 1831
Frances Sutton Oates ~ 11 Oct 1833

I followed the 3 children and was in touch with Frances' descendant for a while

Oooops YES I do have the marriage 4th August 1823

Found them in 1861 but Ancestry won't save in Google Chrome for me and won't allow me to open it in IE at the moment. Says I'm logged in on 2 computers.

FMP is down for maintainence

I've emailed you the 1851 and 1861 images. They are in Clapham on both of them.

I can't see them in 1841 or 1871.

I would imagine that it's highly possible John and Ann had died by 1871.

Rachel the 1851 census is saved to several trees on Ancestry according to when you view the image.

Also they have a burial record saved for her (maybe Marg can email you it?)

24th April 1869 at Norwood Cemetery, Lambeth Ann Oates, High Street, Clapham, aged 76

None of the those seems to have the 1841 census.

John Oates was buried at Norwood too, 30 Jan 1864, Lyham Road, Clapham, aged 67

Not sure which daughter you descend from but Maria Sutton Oates is the main one on those trees.
