………………………………………… ………………………………………… ……..

I believe William's parents were

James Crowther and Susannah Bradley who married in 1818 in Bradford

Haven't found James Crowther's death which was before 1841 census but Susannah died on 10th Nov 1854 in Bradford - the widow of James Crowther a weaver. A William Crowther of 23 Pit Lane, Bradford registered the death.

If William's father died when William was very young, he may have given his older brother's name instead of his father's at his first marriage. Maybe he didn't know his father's name and assumed his brother was named after him. I have seen a few like that.

Thanks Kate

There's 4 years between his 1st marriage and his mother's death and William registered the death stating her husband as James.

Would he have suddenly remembered James not Thomas?

Maybe he asked his family after his wedding? He got married in Halifax so they may not have been there.

Wish I could find his baptism if his siblings are correct I think I got them christened in Bradford but maybe his father died around the same time as he was born and they never got around to it.

However the 1851 census occupation and place of birth fits in with the following census's and has him with his mother Susannah - so hopefully proving the other family trees wrong.
