I wonder if that should read "dishonourable discharge" as opposed to discharged dead?
9 October 1858 he was found guilty of stealing six towels, five shirts and a belt. He could not pay the fine, so was sentenced to three calendar months in prison.

It looks as if this might be George's death:
WALTERS, GEORGE 33 GRO Reference: 1862 D Quarter in WINCHESTER Volume 02C Page 59 4 October 1862 he was court martialled for a whole rash of thefts. He was to receive 48 lashes and then be imprisoned at Winchester for 12 calendar months.
