I have clicked on the batch no. for Bratton and a Shadrack Cook appears:
https://familysearch.org/search/reco...ber%3AC15235-1 From the Wiltshire OPC site: I don't know if any if this is connected to your Ann, but worth investigating: http://www.wiltshire-opc.org.uk/Item...es%20-%20C.pdf Cook Benjamin 1794 Bratton Parishoners Wills Benjamin Cook (Charles Cook and Dinah and others mentioned in same context but no Ann Newman or Shadrack Cook.) http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/d...resultcount=56 Cook Benjamin Lewis Bratton Monumental Inscriptions Last edited by ElizabethHerts; 17-12-11 at 09:30. |

Here is the will for Benjamin Cook of Bratton:
http://www.wiltshire-opc.org.uk/Item...ook%201794.pdf You don't have to pay the NA for it! This is interesting: "... Also I give to my brother Charles Cook the like sum of one hundred and twenty pounds or to his children the like sum case of his decease to be equally parted and divided between them share and share alike ..." |

Thanks very much for those links Elizabeth (I will look at them more closely later!). I have always wanted Shadrach to be Ann Cook's brother as I think he in the one aged 90 on the 1841 census! Says he is independent there, but he died in the poorhouse in 1843 so presumably independent just meant he wasn't receiving poor relief that week!
I don't know how to establish whether that Ann Cook bap is the right one as it's such a common name. My Bratton/Westbury relatives are very unhelpful - I don't think they were very fussed with the church - only baptising occasional children and often years after they were born. They did like their old Testament names though. I also have had problems with their burials - in fact I don't think I've ever found any despite death certs and checks with the pr's etc.

I wish that Benjamin was one of mine, but I haven't found any of my Wiltshire rellies living above the poverty line so far.
Where did you find this link? http://www.wiltshire-opc.org.uk/Item...es%20-%20C.pdf I would like to see other letters of the alphabet, but don't know where to look

Shadrack and his wife seemed to have saved up their children for one mass baptism!
