Default William Pope 1797 - 1880 Cornwall

Baptism
William, son of John Pope and Sarah Pope, nee Johns
09 Jul 1797, St. Merryn, Cornwall

First marriage
05 Jun 1826, St Ervan, Cornwall
to Mary Brewer.

William & Mary had two daughters, Mary Ann b. 1827 and Honor Brewer b 1831, both baptised St Ervan. William's occupation in the baptism registers is "shoemaker".

William's first wife died in 1831 and their daughters were brought up by Mary's sister Nancy Brewer.


William's 2nd marriage

1873 Post Office Directory for Cornwall lists for St Ervan
"Pope, Wm. shopkpr & post office, Rumford". It also says "Post Office. William Pope, receiver Letters through St Issey. Nearest money order office is at Padstow".

Death cert:
10th January 1880, Rumford, St. Ervan
William Pope, 83 years, occupation: shopkeeper.
Cause of death: apoplexy, 14 hours, certifed by H. Marley, MRCSE.
Informant: Cordelia James, daughter [William's daughter by his second wife Mary James] 19 January 1880.

14 May 1880,
Personal Estate under £200
"The Will of William Pope, late of the parish of St. Ervan in Cornwall, Shopkeeper, who died 10 Jan 1880, at St. Ervan, was proved at Bodmin by Mary Pope of St. Ervan, relict, the sole executrix".
