No, Maggy, I've come across the name Euphemia quite a few times in Scottish lines.

I've got several Euphemia's too! Now you say it's a Scottish name, Kate, that makes sense as in each case on my tree one parent (always the one not related to me!) is from Scotland, but I'd not made the connection, so thanks for that!

Thanks Kite......yes it should be Euphemia (we think)

She was born prior to proper records so we have her baptism. The closest we got on that was Euphine although it is also recorded under Luphine???? lol

Her father,Robert Batman,came out to Australia as a baby with his parents in 1796. Robert's father, William was a convict who came here with his family.

Robert's brother, John, was the founder of Melbourne. Another brother, Henry, settled northern Tasmania, although stories about his dealing with the Aborigines leave a lot to be desired.
