Default Dna results hoping to find ancestors of Peter Henry Harrison

My daughters have tested as well as me. Thru lines give a link to PHH but it’s wrong. Many years ago I thought that PHH was born in York as the marriage cert said his fathers name was Thomas and we were told he was a Yorkshireman. There was a Peter Harrison born at the right time in York with a father Thomas. Trouble is, when the 1911 census came out that Peter was still in York and ‘mine’ was in Ashby de la Zouch, born Rotherham. That’s a lie as we know.
The thru lines links to the York Peter Harrison.
Is there anywhere else I can upload the dna results to...... and how??

You can upload to My Heritage, Family Tree DNA and Living DNA, Marg. First you have to download the raw DNA data from ancestry:
https://support.ancestry.com/s/artic...ryDNA-Raw-Data

Take care not to accidentally delete the DNA data instead, as I saw someone recently posted on Facebook that they had done this.

https://www.myheritage.com/dna/upload

https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer

https://support.livingdna.com/hc/en-...-Find-my-past-

You are unlikely to get many matches on Living DNA at the moment, if any, though.

There is also GEDMatch, now known as GEDMatch Genesis, but make sure to read all the privacy info before uploading to that site (it differs from the other sites in that anyone can see your matches etc, not just people who match to you.) I haven't uploaded my DNA data to that site.

But ancestry is likely to be the most useful site for trying to find out who Peter Henry Harrison's ancestors were. I would ignore ThruLines for now if I were you. It's only in beta testing at the moment anyway and I haven't found it to be much use.

As you have tested your DNA, it should be easy enough to see which of your daughters' matches are on their father's side. Then you need to sort them into groups of shared matches and try to figure out how each group is related to them. If they have a match who you know is descended from your PHH, then the shared matches with that person should be particularly useful. Feel free to PM me with names etc if you want help with that.

Thanks for that Kate

We don’t have any matches for PHH as we don’t even know his fathers name. Any matches that have arisen on my husbands side of the family have been PHH’s wife’s side

No, I meant if there are any matches to descendants of his, second cousins to your daughters or whatever. Though of course they would also be descendants of his wife so could be related on either of their lines.

Although I said to ignore ThruLines, I was just wondering, Marg - when ThruLines links to the wrong Peter Harrison, does it show any DNA matches who are supposedly descended from him?

I don’t think so. I’ve contacted one person who comes up as a third cousin to my daughter. No linked tree and the ancestry tree is private. I’ve asked what names they have but I haven’t had a reply as yet.

The only DNA matches so far are my side I knew about or OH’s side not belonging to PHH that I’d also contacted previously too.

Thru lines matches up to submitted trees on ancestry- the quality of which can be dubious to say the least and taken with a pinch of salt.

One of my matches was right for quite a few generations but then attached to a Lord which I think is improbable and there's no proof I can see.
