I think I should at this point say that I have a niggling suspicion that I'm missing a generation here. If you look at the Ancestry deaths and burials for a Christian Benzing you'll find three. The 1837 one is the one I have a cert for where the informant is Ann. The 1824 is a child which I've claimed as Christian and Ann's. But the third burial in 1834 is for a Christian Benzing that I have no other record for. If he was born in 1804 it's quite possible that he is the father of my 2x gt grandmother Ann (and perhaps the child who died) who was b in 1828 (he would of course have to have married an Ann too). The other reason for my doubts is the length of time between Christian and Ann's marrige in 1812 and the birth of the first child in 1823. Your thoughts are welcome!

So the 1837 death is for a 56 year old and his wife is Ann from the death cert, but you think their marriage seems early because the births of 'their' children were in the 1820s?

Is that right?

I hope I haven't confused you too much Merry! I've been confused by this for several years now. If only I could find some other information about the mystery Christian just to settle the doubts.

Back to square 1 then!

Who are the children baptised as the sons/daus of Christian and Ann and what dates? (obviously they might not all belong to the same couple! lol)

I was going to look for more marriages around 1823, but the LMA records seem to have vanished from Ancestry.

They are still there Merry, honest!

The other witness to the 1812 marriage, Jacob Sulan was a business partner of Christian Benzing (info from Sun Fire Insurance records on TNA/Guildhall Library)

I have to go to work this afternoon will check in later. Thanks for looking!!

The marriages are still on ancestry, Merry, they just aren't coming up on the global search:
London marriages and banns
