Shrewsbury, where Helen was living in 1939, was in Atcham district. There are these two death registrations:

Deaths Dec 1928

Goode Thomas 74 Atcham 6a 729

Deaths Mar 1933

Goode Thomas 82 Atcham 6a 1032

Neither made a will (nor any of the others who died 1920-1939 of approx. the right age). Maybe the second one is closer for age (EDIT actually, there's nothing much in it!!)?

I think the Thomas Goode who died in 1928 is this one in 1911:

77 Belle Vue Road, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Thomas Goode, head m 57 mineral merchant's salesman b Bromfield, Shropshire
Ann Goode wife m 58 b Pontesbury, Shropshire

Ann's death was registered in 1929:

Deaths Mar 1929

Goode Ann 76 Atcham 6a 1108

Her probate entry, below, says she is a widow, so her husband is very likely to be the 1928 death in Atcham district.

GOODE Ann of 77 Belle Vue Road Shrewsbury widow died 11 Mar 1929 Administration Shrewsbury 9 April to Thomas Richard Goode painter, Effects £175 14s 11d

So that leaves the 1933 death as the most likely for the husband of Helen and very likely to be your Thomas

Yes, Merry. It was 2011 when we were last looking at this. I have kept coming back to it, but never had any successes.

Thank you for all your help yet again (and Kate!). I shall order the marriage certificate and the second death certificate.

I am sending my Grandma's DNA off this weekend, so it has made me look at this branch of her tree again. I am trying to renew my ancestry subscription, but it won't load for some reason.
