The father of William Allen (Week 13 - FMMFF)
Hmm, this isn't easy!! lol
William Allen (my 2xg-gp) was b about 1807. His places of birth are recorded as follows: 1851 Lichfield, Staffs 1861 Burton upon Trent, Staffs 1871 Ashby de la Zouche, Staffs (isn't that in Leicestershire?!) 1881 Ashby de la Zouche, Leic 1891 Ashby, Leic His lived the majority of his married live in Bristol having married in All Saints, Alrewas, Staffordshire in 1831 (where his wife was from) So, I just need his bap to find his father!

I think that 1851 census must be wrong as regards the birthplace, because his son Edwin is consistently shown as born in Worcester on the other censuses, but Lichfield in 1851. Perhaps the enumerator messed up.
Ashby is about 10 miles from Burton, so perhaps he was actually born in one of the villages in between. |

One thing I did do was look to see if there were any more male Allens b in Ashby around the same time (IGI and 1851 census), but there were none within ten years.

They're in Birmingham in 1841, all born out of county, which doesn't really help.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that.
I was surprised when I first saw the 1841 census that Wm was a paper hanger at that date, as I'd decided it was something he had done later in life when he gave up cabinet making. I wonder if he would have been apprenticed?

No idea, but it seems likely. Maybe his father was in the same trade, too.

I've had a quick look at the Staffs archive catalogue in case there's an apprenticeship deed, but there isn't, although I don't know if they have them all indexed. There are a few William Allens mentioned (including one in Burton), but nothing that obviously connects them to yours.
