Default Ann Cranley Hatch, wife of John Harfield Hatch - Canada

Ann and her husband John went to Canada. John died in 1901 in Ontario.

Is there free access to Canadian censuses? I want to track Ann and see when she died. Also I would like to look at their children too.

Ann was born in 1831 and John in 1829 in Portsea, Hampshire.

I briefly looked at the 1911 Canadian census on Family Search but couldn't see Ann or John.

In 1891 John Harfield Hatch is in Normanby, Ontario, but there is no image. It says he is widowed.

That death was in Grey County, so does any of this help, Elizabeth?

https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Grey_County,_Ontario

https://familysearch.org/search/cata...rio%2C%20Grey"

I noticed that Harfield was mistranscribed Warfield in one place I saw.

Thanks, Janet. I'll look at those.

On Family Search in 1871 there is a family with mother? Annie and a son Harfield born c. 1867. Other children William, James and Harry, whom I don't have on my tree so far.

I don't know if this is my Ann Cranley Hatch or not, but the name Harfield is a family name.

Okay, yes, I thought this sounded familiar. It's the same county where Tom Tom went in search of his 5xgreat aunt last year. That was in Owen Sound, which is the county seat. If you look on that thread you'll find some links that Jenny gave Tom.
Canadian research help needed!

Normanby is mentioned as the Division of Grey County where the death occurred. I don't see a modern Normanby on Google Maps, but there are many place names with reference to Normanby about 65-70 km south of Owen Sound. Then I found this describing "Ayton, the heart of Normanby Township":
https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Ayton,_Ontario,_Canada

It is a "Guide to Ayton, Ontario, Canada ancestry, family history and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, census records, parish registers, and military records."

Thanks, Janet. That's very helpful.

Unfortunately I don't have any world-wide subscriptions as I don't have the need most of the time as my main lines stayed put in the UK.

Ann Cranley Hatch must have died between the 1871 and 1881 Censuses.

The eldest child, Annie Mary Hatch, born in Portsea, Hampshire in 1854, didn't settle in Canada but married Henry Coury Cleverly in 1881 in Portsea.
