Default 1939 Register

I used up the credits I wasn't going to buy really quickly! But I am amazed at how many people who should be there aren't. A whole raft of people who I'm fairly sure were around but just not in the index, unless they've been quite badly mistranscribed.

I'm planning on having my first look around the site this evening. Wish me luck.

It does say in FMP's new blog post that there were some late registrations who weren't included on the National Register but went straight onto the "Central Register" which can't be viewed.

It doesn't seem to be as useful as I had hoped. There are plenty of people missing, and plenty of people whose records are closed but shouldn't be.

Hopefully it is updated over time (as is mentioned on FMP) and thus ends up being more useful.

Kate

I did wonder what happened about people who didn't register at first for whatever reason but who then realised they couldn't have a ration book if they didn't. There must have been a few.

I wonder why we can't see the Central Register.

I decided to purchase the 5 household bundle with my 25% discount code, like Daphne it didn't give me the discount. No opportunity to enter the code. I've emailed them.

I looked at the household for Peter Henry Harrison. Him and Lily yes, three others. One my deceased father in law and his sister also deceased. The other younger brother is still alive. I attempted to submit death certs for father in law and his sister, I have both. The site must be so busy with people trying to do this because I got nowhere.

Oh and my great aunt who only passed away in September this year is listed. She was born in January 1915.
What a pity she didn't live to see it.

Out of 5 records I decided to take credits for I've found 5 mistakes, 3 on one record. I've been unable to find my paternal grandmother or my OH's mother with her 3 eldest children, FiL is with 2 of his brothers so I'm thinking his mother and the children had already been evacuated, they normally lived in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I think with the amount of mistakes being mentioned by folk on FB and other sites FMP are going to be inundated with corrections.

I haven't bought any credits as I can't afford it and I don't need for research purposes.

I've done a few searches and there are quite a few closed records which have me puzzled. From who I know should or could be there they are all dead so should be viewable.

When I do get to look in the future it will be interesting to see who and why. I admit the closed records have me more curious than those I could see if I chose.
