They lived in a neighbouring village but yes it could be something like that. Thanks Merry - it's the first time I've seen it so I was imagining it was related to some of the domestic drama involved

On our son's birth certificate it has By Declaration.
He was born in Worcester Maternity Hospital, Worcestershire but my husband registered the birth at our local register office which was Malvern, Worcestershire. The deputy registrar in Malvern then sent all the details to Worcester register office who then issued the certificate.
So, it does look as if the birth was registered via a local office and not the one nearest to the place of birth.
