Default William Robins - a bit of a rogue? 1824-1900

William Robins
born 27 June 1824, Monkwell Street, City of London

William's parents and all except 2 of his siblings are also missing, so I think they are on a bit of the census that didn't survive

1844 William was tried at the Old Bailey on a charge of theft of 3 combs for making wallpaper. His father James and his future father-in-law, Joseph Denison, gave evidence on his behalf and he was found not guilty.

14 Sep 1846 married Caroline Sarah Denison, at St. John the Baptist, Hoxton

William, 26, is working as a paper stainer and living with wife Caroline, 20 and their children William 4 and Charles 8 months.

16 Apr 1853 third child Joseph James Robins is born at 5 Ironmonger Row, City Road ~ no further trace of this child

30 Dec 1855 fourth child Frederick James Robins born ~ William Robins, furniture broker

1861 ~ not found
a huge chunk of Whitecross Street area is missing or unreadable!

23 July 1866 birth of last child, Caroline Sarah Robins
[I am a bit dubious about this child, born 11 years after the last known child, especially as William's whereabouts in the 1860s is unknown]

1870 Parkhurst Prison returns include William Robins age 50 convicted of felony 11 Apr 1870, sentenced to 5 years. Invalid. Conduct good.

1871
Parkhurst Prison
William Robins b Cripplegate
[wife Caroline and child Caroline Sarah are at 26 Playhouse Yard, St. Luke's]

Jun 1871 quarterly return for Parkhurst lists William as convicted of "felony receiving". Unfortunately the returns for Parkhurst after this are missing

1881
