Default (8) Frank Henry Nash, Private 20514 10th Battalion, Canadian Infantry

8th of the Old Boys of my school to lose his life in WW1.

Born 9 July 1892 in Haywards Heath, Frank was one of the three children of Arthur Nash, (a carpenter) and Ellen Nash. He was baptised in the town at St Wilfrid’s on 26th August 1894. They lived in Sussex Road and by 1911 aged 16 Frank was a wood working machinist, and later he also joined the 4th Sussex Territorials, 103rd Regiment. Frank emigrated to Canada and it was there that he joined the army on September 23rd 1914. His attestation papers show on that he was 22 years 2 months, was 5’ 11” tall with a ruddy complexion, brown eyes and red/fair hair.

He was reported missing, presumed dead following an attack on St Julien in Belgium on 26 April 1915; it is not known where he is buried, but is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

There was a small piece in the local paper:
MID SUSSEX TIMES 25 MAY 1915
PRIVATE F NASH, HAYWARDS HEATH
Mr & Mrs Nash of 3 Hedgerow Villas, Sussex Road have received notification to the effect that their younger son, Frank, who was serving with the Canadian Contingent at the front, is missing.
