After many searches of the IGI, non-conformist bmd registers and Lancashire online parish clerks, I think Christopher could have been the son of Sarah Eccles, baptised in 1786 in Darwen Lancs. He is not the son of George and Ann Eccles baptised in 1790 as the non-con. bmd registers have a burial for that child in 1793.

But there also seems to several Eccles families in Manchester, just none with a son Christopher in both the IGI and Lancs Online Parish Clerks.

There seems to be some link to the non-conformists as many of his descendents are buried in non=conformist parts of Phillips Park and Manchester Southern Cemetery, although they used the Collegiate Church/Cathedral for baptisms and weddings.

I have just noticed something is wrong here - the IGI gives the marriage date as 6 Dec 1827, but two baptisms for their children supposedly took place on 3 Sep 1826.

Why have I never noticed this before ?

Definitely a trip to the LDS libray to prowl through the microfilm seems to be necessary now

Thanks Marg, I thought I had only the burial date, but silly me did not make a note of where it came from and somewhere along the way its become the date of death.

This age puts his birth date in 1794 or very late 1793, not that thats much more help.

There's a marriage for a Christopher Eccles and Alice Grange in Manchester in Nov 1794, but I have never found any children for them. I would have expected too, that his fathers name was John, not Christopher, but whos to say, really.

I wonder if there are still graves at Manchester Cathedral ? I don't expect a headstone as the family was not well off.

Back to the burial records for me now - I think I will buy the new one, if Manchester is covered !! It could solve some mysteries.
