When Jane's son James Newton married in 1834, one of the witnesses was Arnold Hall, son of James and Martha Hall of Stalybridge. Arnold was born in 1807. I have been developing a tree for Arnold and the Halls but still can't see where Jane Hall fits in.

Have you already ruled these out?
18 May 1777 Stalybridge baptism of Jenny, daughter of John Hall, clothier of Cocker-hill(?) and Nancy.
9 Feb 1777 Stalybridge baptism of Jenny, daughter of Thomas Hall, cloth-miller of Stalybridge, and Sarah. (Presumably died in infancy.)
1 Mar 1778 Stalybridge baptism of Jinney, daughter of Thomas Hall, cloth miller of Stalybridge, and Sarah.

I've been looking at them, Kate.
I've been doing an Ancestry tree for Arnold Hall's family but haven't tied these in.

Perhaps I'll do one for these families.

I've started a tree with Jinney as the root person.

Thomas and Sarah Hall had a daughter Harriot born c. 1784.
One entry for the baptism says this:

Harriot Hall
Thomas Hall of Stayley Bridge Cloth Miller Son of Joseph Hall
Sarah Daughter of Cowper
Born Feb 9th
Baptised March 14

Thomas Hall and Sarah Cooper married on 22nd August 1773 at St Michael, Ashton-under-Lyne.
Thomas might have been born c. 1750.

The Joseph and Martha Hall whose descendants include Arnold married on 26 June 1748 at Saint Michael,Ashton Under Lyne, so it is feasible for them to be Thomas' parents.

Joseph died in 1799 and there was an administration. Joseph Hall, Hatter, and James Hall, cotton manufacturer, were administrators. I think they were his sons. No Thomas mentioned, but that isn't necessarily a problem.

I've found the memorial inscription for Thomas Hall and some of his family members. There is a very good website for St George Stalybridge:
https://d3hgrlq6yacptf.cloudfront.ne...morials-a4.pdf

HERE WAS INTERRED THE BODY OF
JENNY DAUGHTER OF THOMAS HALL OF
STAYLEY BRIDGE WHO DIED APRIL 5TH 1777
IN THE FIRST YEAR OF HER AGE. ALSO
HARRIET HIS DAUGHTER WHO DEPARTED
THIS LIFE JULY 19TH 1785 IN THE 3RD YEAR
OF HER AGE. ALSO SARAH WIFE OF THE
ABOVE THOMAS HALL WHO DEPARTED THIS
LIFE JUNE 29TH 1792 IN THE 40TH YEAR OF
HER AGE. ALSO THE SAID THOMAS HALL
OF STAYLEY BRIDGE, CLOTH MILLER, WHO
DEPARTED THIS LIFE DEC. 7TH 1794 IN THE
45TH YEAR OF HIS AGE. ALSO THOMAS SON OF
NEDDY & SARAH HALL WHO DIED 18TH MARCH
1806 AGED 15 WEEKS. ALSO OF THE ABOVE
NEDDY HALL WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE
MAY 31ST 1839 IN THE 59TH YEAR OF HIS AGE.
ALSO SARAH HALL HIS WIFE WHO DEPARTED
THIS LIFE AGE. 26TH 1847 IN THE 66TH YEAR
OF HER AGE. ALSO SELINA WIFE OF ROBERT
KNOTT, WHO DIED FEB.26TH 1909 IN HER 734D
YEAR. ALSO OF HARRIET ANN DAUGHTER OF
ROBERT & SELINA KNOTT WHO DIED APRIL 1ST

Thomas Hall doesn't appear to have left a will, which is a great shame.
