Charles Moore b 1812
My relation Charles Moore was bp April 1812, son of James and Sarah Moore of Hamworthy near Poole, Dorset.
He appears to have joined the Navy, sailed on the Atholl, and was discharged sick in 1831 - possibly in Africa?? A Charles Moore married a Jane Lock widow in Poole in 1835. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...=successSource Was this the same man? Can anyone find out anything about Jane? She was not the Jane living with the Hayward family in 1841. She was born Jane Elizabeth Hayward, married Henry Moores and had a son Henry Hayward Moores. Any help/suggestions gratefully received. Moore can be rendered Moor(e)(s).

This is the - so far as I am aware - unrelated marriage of Henry Moore (at best a cousin of Charles)

I think Phoenix is saying that her Jane Moore, formerly Lock, is not the Jane Moore(s) who was with the Hayward family in 1841 because that one is the Jane who was married to Henry Moores.

Phoenix, one of the witnesses at Charles and Jane's wedding was a Wm H Moore. Did your Charles have a brother (or other relative) of that name?

Here is the baptism of a Mary Moore, daughter of Charles and Jane, 29 Jun 1836 at Poole. Charles is a mariner:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...31ec1eda6540ab I was hoping to find a child born after 1837 so we could get Jane's maiden name, but not found one of those in Poole yet. |

No, his brothers were Robert and James. I imagine that the charles in the marriage was a much older man, but you could be a widow at twenty.

There is this family in 1841 at Wyke Regis but it isn't very close to Poole:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...=successSource C Moore 25 Mariner N Jane Do 30 N Mary Do 5 Y Elizabeth Do 3 Y Charles Moore 1 Y. Jane being older than "C" would fit with him being a bachelor and her being a widow when they married. |
