This is the first one I found:
• Title Grendon deeds, 1697-1717 • Reference ZB1315 • Date Early: 1687 Late: 1717 • Scope and Content Grendon deeds, 1697-1717 Apparently unrelated deeds concerning purchases by Mrs Hannah Tapp in 1697 and land owned by the Eaton family in 1701 and 1717. One of the conveyances to Mrs Tapp, ZB1315/3, in its long description of the land makes reference to the system of dividing the meadows into 'twenties' and a two year rotation. • Level of description http://nro.adlibhosting.com/Details/archive/110095731 The next one is very interesting: • Title Marriage Settlement of Edward Warden and Anne Eaton • Reference ZB1315/4 • Date 2nd December 1701 • Date Early: 1701 Late: 1701 • Scope and Content Marriage Settlement 1.Thomas Eaton of Grendon and Anne his wife. 2.Robert Warden of Grendon and Edward his son and heir. 3.Miss Anne Eaton of Grendon, daughter of Thomas and Anne Eaton. For the marriage of Edward Warden and Anne Eaton to provide a jointure for Anne Eaton if she survives her husband. For a cottage in Grendon late in the tenure of William Bernard and now ocupied by Robert Somes. The cottage was conveyed to the late William Marshall and Anne Eaton, then his wife, by John Johnson and Mary his wife on 20th April 1670. Several pieces of arable land and ley ground in the common fields of Grendon of 3 acres, half a rood. Specifically; In the field next to Strixton, five leyes lying together on Thatch Furlong containing 2 acres, half a rood, land of Mr Worsley to the west and of Christopher Norbury to the east. Two leyes in Cockland of 3 roods, land of Mr Willoughby to the east and of Thomas Smart to the west. In Ashby Field one rood lying on Over Clayhill, land of William Houghton to the south. All now in the tenure of Thomas Eaton. The land was settled on Mrs Eaton, then Miss Anne Key by William Marshall her former husband as her jointure on 11th January 1663. Two arable lands of 3 roods in the common fields of Grendon, two roods lying on Easton Bridge Furlong, land of Mr Compton to the north and of Mr Wigmore to the south. The other rood lies on the same furlong, land of Charles Norbury to the north and of William Hutton to the south. Also in the tenure of Thomas Eaton. The 3 roods were settled on the late Thomas Key, father of Mrs Eaton, for his life by William Marshall, and after his death upon Mrs Eaton and her heirs, on 11th September 1660. To the use of the Eatons until the marriage. Then for the Eatons for their lives, then for Edward Warden and Anne his intended wife for their lives and then for their children. The next one shows that Thomas Eaton, father of my possible Thomas, died young:
• Title Assignment of mortgage for arable, ley and pasture in the common fields of Grendon • Reference ZB1315/5 • Date 30th September 1717 • Date Early: 1717 Late: 1717 • Scope and Content Assignment of a mortgage 1. Thomas Duglas of Easton Maudit 2. Thomas Eaton of Grendon 3. Charles Norbury and David Smyth, churchwardens and Edward Warden and robert Prest, overseers of the poor of Grendon. Reciting a mortgage for 320 of 29th March 1709 between 1 Thomas Eaton and Thomas, his son and 2 Thomas Duglas. For several pieces of arable land, ley and pasture ground in the common fields of Grendon of 8 !/2 acres,in the tenure of Eaton. Formerly the inheritance of Thomas Marshall the elder and settled by him on his son Thomas by deedpoll dated 19th October [1638]. Descending to the late Sarah eaton, daughter and heir of Thomas Marshall the younger and wife of Thomas Eaton. The mortgage has not been repaid. Thomas Eaton the son is now dead leaving his own son Thomas an infant, 'with divers other small children who are all become chargeable to the said parishe of Grendon as is also the said Thomas Eaton the elder'. Eaton and Duglas have accounted for the rents and profits of the 8 1-2 acres taken by Duglas which leaves a balance of £11 owing to Duglas. Now Eaton and Duglas will assign the mortgage term to the churchwardens and overseers of the poor for £11, to be paid to Duglas. Witnesses: Joseph Browne,Samuel Browne. Endorsed memorandom that Joseph Browne, tenant in possession of the premises agrees to pay the rent of £3 to the churchwardens and overseers and their successors. • Level of description item My Thomas might be one of the "divers other small children" mentioned. In fact, the transcription of the marriage is wrong. The image clearly shows the marriage being 24 Jan: 1680, so 1680/81. The same month as William Marshall's burial.
