Anslow Licensee Dead, Found by son in Smoke-Room, Fatal Throat Wound.

The Licensee of the Acorn Inn, Anslow, was found dead in the smoke room early this morning with a wound in his throat. He was Edgar Newey, aged 51, a painter and decorater as well as licensee. He was found at about seven o'clock by his son Frank Newey. The police arrived and medical aid was summoned, but Newey was dead. An inquest will be held at the Acorn Inn, probably tomorrow.

Burton Licensee's Death, Son's Tragic Discovery in Smokeroom.

Burton District Coroner, Mr J L Auden, held an inquest at the Acorn Inn, Rough Hayes, this afternoon, on Edgar Newey (51), painter and decorater and licensee of the Acorn Inn, who was found dead in his smokeroom on Monday morning by his son Sydney Frank Newey, also a painter a painter and decorator. Evidence was given that Newey had eaten nothing for the last fortnight. He did not go to bed on Sunday night, and at 6.30 the next morning his son found him downstairs. He appeared to be demented, and when half an hour later, the son went into the smoke room he found the elder Newey in a chair, with blood coming from a wound in the throat. A blood-stained razor was sticking out of his pocket. He died before help could be called.

Funeral of Burton Licensee.

The funeral took place at Burton Cemetery of Mr Edgar Newey, of the Acorn Inn Rough Hayes, who died on Monday. Mr Newey served in the African and Great Wars and was well known in Burton and district. In addition to being a licensee, Mr Newey was a painter and decorator. The mourners were:- Mrs A Newey (widow); Mr Frank Newey, Mr Maurice Newey and Mr Leslie Newey (sons); Miss Dorothy Newey and Miss Winnie Newey (daughters); Mr and Mrs W Newey (brother and sister in law); Mr A T Mortlock (brother in law) and Mr G Fleetwood.
Beautiful floral tributes were received from th efollowing:- The widow and family; Mr and Mrs A T Mortlock; Mr and Mrs A Yeates, Burnley, Lancs; Mrs Rushton and Frank; Mr and Mrs G Lloyd; customers and friends; and George.
