Thanks Di, Daphne and Lib for your interest.
Daphne, Henrietta and Robert's headstones is with another single headstone across Plumbago Creek, not in the General Cemetery in Drake. Fortunately the owners of the land allow access, but it is a bit difficult to get to especially in wet weather. Lib I will be in touch. Beautiful day here today .. Thanks ladies. Julie |

There are three George Brown's entering NSW in 1841 as assisted passengers. Somehow I don't think he had been in Australia that long.
Both the following are noted with families and the first is the correct age. I am having trouble opening documents at the moment. Can anyone check the two ships for assisted passengers and see if you can find a teacher? Thanks. No idea Merry .. Henrietta had been widowed and then remarried. Unfortunately I don't have the admon .. only what is written in the book. I thought it strange too, but typed it as it is written. Julie

The one on the Exodus 1855 is a policeman with wife and children and his parents are Richard and Sarah.
The one on the Empire 1853 is a weaver and gardener son of Thomas and Isabella. |

Do you have anything for George's first marriage? I realise that it could have been anywhere, to anyone.
I don't like the way so many surnames are lying around: Stubbs, Minto, Brown. I looked for George Stubbs on Wiki - a common law wife. surname Spencer, a son George Townley Stubbs b 1756. George Stubb's will is on TNA. That might mention family, but of course it was likely to be before your George's parents married. FMP census 1851 has a George M Brown unmarried, clerk Bank of England b 1823, Kennington living in Westminster.

A George Brown, son of James, married an Elizabeth Keen at Kennington in 1853. The banns for this are on Ancestry, but the marriage isn't because the registers on Ancestry only go up to 1852. His address is cemetery, West Brompton.
Elizabeth is at 11 Oxford Terrace in 1851 as Elizabeth Kern a servant b 1829 in Brixton. In 1841, she is aged 11, with parents James Keen & Sarah. James is a farrier. I realise, of course, that this could be a complete red herring

FamilySearch has the baptism of a William George Stubbs Minto 22 Dec 1824 at St George the Martyr, Southwark, London, date of birth 26 Nov 1822, parents James Minto and Mary. Surely this must be him!
There is also a James Stubbs Minto baptised the same day, same parents, date of birth 3 Dec 1824. |

Now looking at the LMA records on ancestry, they have Elizabeth Rachel, daughter of James and Maria Minto, born 24 Jan 1827, baptised 11 Feb 1827 St George the Martyr, Southwark, abode Chapel Court, Borough, father's occupation tobacco pipe maker! I will try to find the boys' baptisms on there, must be mistranscribed or something...
