James Lea, born c. 1800
I'm trying to get back further from this chap.
He was a tailor who lived in the Sandbach area. He married at Catherine from Red Street, Wolstanton, Staffordshire. They appear to have had just one son, also James, who was baptised on 24th December 1826 at Sandbach. Catherine could have been Catherine Hibbert, in which case this is the marriage: https://search.findmypast.co.uk/reco...F745040021%2F1 However, I'm not convinced! This is the 1841 Census:https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...580?pId=212685 They are the last family on the page. With them is a boy called Charles, who was not their son. He was the illegitimate son of Frances Lea and was baptised at Sandbach in 1831. I am speculating whether Frances and James were siblings. James Lea died in 1849 and this is a transcription from his headstone: IN LOVING MEMORY OF JAMES LEA OF WHEELOCK WHO DIED APRIL 7th 1849 AGED 48 YEARS ALSO CATHERINE WIFE OF THE ABOVE WHO DIED FEB 22 1874 AGED 75 YEARS ALSO LUCY THE BELOVED WIFE OF JAMES LEA SON OF THE ABOVE WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE JAN 6TH 1887 JAMES LEA DIED AUGUST 10 1900 AGED 74 YEARS There is a a baptism for a James Lea to James Edy Lea in 1800 but I haven't been able to identify this man. Edit: there were other children to James and Edy Lea. Last edited by ElizabethHerts; 24-02-22 at 09:27. |

The record I have from FMP says "James son of James Edy Lea" - the word "and" is omitted, which is why I was confused.
The indexing is rubbish. I click on a marriage, only to get a baptism. This is the second time today. https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcr...F745182416%2F1 |
