Default Ancestry - sorting matches by location

I have been trying to find matches for my ancestors from the south of England and was using the facility to select matches according to location.

Since the new features have been introduced I can no longer do that as I did before.

I have tried a different method, going into the map associated with Ethnicity and clicking on the South East England tab. This tells me I have 138 matches from this area. However, if I click on the tab to view them I just get a list of all my matches including the numerous ones from Scotland. So I seem to have lost the ability to sort the matches geographically. I wonder if Ancestry is aware of this?

It's amazing how many matches I have for ancestors from Scotland and how few from southern England. I can click on South East England, but despite the map showing me I have ancestors from all over the south of England, there is no tab. So my Cornish and Devon ancestry is totally ignored.

I'm not sure if it's what you mean, Elizabeth, but if you go into your full list of DNA Matches there's a search button on the top right corner that brings up the search by matches by name or birth location that was more prominent before.

Thanks, Sue, I've found it now. Now you have to type in where you want a match from, which is better, but the prompts are weird. I was typing in south east England and they want:

south, east, England

At least I have now found some matches from Cornwall.

I'm not sure how well this works. A few of my Cornish matches have names that match my Scottish ancestors!

Where are you finding the search by region function? I remember seeing it when I first got my DNA results, and only used it once because I found it useless, but I can't see it anywhere now.

Thank goodness you can go back to the old matches, sort the way you want to, star the results, change back to the new way, and then code them uniquely the way you want.

I am so glad I went through BM's results and put a note by every single one. It may have taken forever, but it means I can readily use the new matches system to colour code them.

Phoenix, if you go back to the old system and then change back to the new one, does it remember any groups that you had set up before you changed back to the old system?

Yes, that's what I said. I thought I had better check that straight away before I did too much.

Don't know about anyone else, I'm slightly worried that they have said that nothing in Labs is set in stone. I'd not be best impressed if we lost that colour coding facility!

Thanks, Phoenix.

Yes, it would be a shame if we lost the groups. I am making sure to keep notes on who I put into each group, though.
