Default Update to 1939 Register - findmypast

FMP announced today that there are over 79,000 closed records that have been opened to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Register (29th September).

They say the updates are only available on FMP.

I reckon it is just their normal programme of opening closed records as the date of birth passes 100 years ago, and they just made more of it for the anniversary and because they didn't have much else to announce for this week's "Findmypast Fridays", Maggie.

Rather than start a new thread, I will add to this one that just over 100,000 records on the 1939 Register have just been opened.

I'm surprised they didn't mention it in "Findmypast Fridays" today. Maybe they're saving it for a week when there isn't much else to announce.

Their latest "Findmypast Fridays" says that 57,000 closed records have just been opened, but the total number of open records is only 10 higher than it was 11 days ago, and only 29 higher than it was 22 days ago. Only 597 higher than it was at the end of August! And I'm pretty sure they already announced the 100,000 records which were added in August in a previous FMP Fridays.

So I have no idea what they are talking about! Unless they are about to open 57,000 records by tomorrow and have just jumped the gun with announcing it?

No, the number hasn't gone up overnight.

I looked at the numbers of open records for people born each month starting with Jan 1921. Up to August 1921 there's around 60-70,000 people recorded for each month. Then the numbers fall to around 40,000 a month. So, would 57,000 closed records being opened be the residual for Aug-Oct 1921? Are you going to keep looking every day or two?!
