It was a John Smith - or similar - I was researching. With the added delight of the regiment being in two places at the same time, so two musters to search.

I confess to blindness when it comes to army records, but navy records always seem so much richer.

There are generally 2 Musters to search, if the battalion isn't known. If more than one man of the same name is listed, they generally mention their occupation before enlistment , although that's not necessarily known. Still prefer Army records compared to RN!
