There is a sourced tree on Ancestry which says his occupations were:
1) Cordwainer
2) Mariner
3) Coal porter

No info on parents, though.

I haven't found a baptism at St Botolph, Boston yet, but I'll let you know if I find anything.

Have you tried FreeReg?

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl

There are a few for +/- 10 years around 1783, but nothing obvious.

Hi Elizabeth,

Yes, i've used Freereg a few times and seen a few possibles, but like you say, nothing obvious that is jumping out as the right man. A distant relative of mine has done ample amounts of research on this branch of ours and she is stuck at the same people.

Clare, it's so frustrating, isn't it?
Perhaps more records will come on-line and you will find them both.

Its extremely frustrating but I try to keep my eyes on new records that may eventually shed some light on who Thomas was and where he came from

FreeREG has baptisms for Thomas, son of Thomas Moore and Frances Cabourn, 10 May 1808, father's occupation cordwainer, and Henry, son of Thomas Moore and Frances Cabourn, 26 May 1809, father's occupation mariner. So that matches with the occupations on the ancestry tree, but it does seem unusual for such a drastic change of occupation! At least we know they are both the same family because of the mother's maiden name.

I have managed to find two baptisms on the 8th March 1818 of Hanson & Matilda Moore, children of Thomas & Frances of Boston. I looked at both of them on Lincs to the Past and the occupation for Thomas on these was Boatman. I wonder if the occupation at death of Porter was linked to boats or something completely different?
