Default William North (MMFFFF)

Name - "official" name and what they were known as
William North.

Date and place of birth
Leicestershire, possibly Rothley, around 1756.

Names of parents
Not known

Date and place of baptism - if applicable
Not known

Details of each of his or her marriages - if any
1. Married Mary Wood of Thrussington at All Saints Church, Leicester, on 12th August 1777 (marriage confirmed by the fact that William and Mary's first child, Ann, named in his will, was baptised in Thrussington).

2. Elizabeth (surname unknown). William's will, made in 1845, refers to his wife Elizabeth, but he only leaves her a shilling, the rest of the estate being divided between his children and grandchildren. William isn't with Elizabeth in 1841, and I haven't found a likely candidate for her on that census or an obvious marriage. No burial found for 1st wife Mary, but they were probably Baptists, and the records are patchy.

Occupation(s) - if any
1841: ind.
1845-47: framework knitter

Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on (if s/he lived in census times!).

1780-1794: Rothley, Leicestershire (place of baptism of his children)
1841: Rothley, Leicestershire, aged 80 (born in county; living with son Joseph, daughter Sarah and other family members)
1845-47: Rothley, Leicestershire

Date, place and cause of death
27th November 1847 in Rothley, aged 91.

Date and place of burial
No burial found in PRs, but probably a Baptist burial.

Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable
Probate 1848 to son-in-law William Sewell, with power reserved to son William North, carrier.

Memorial inscription - if any
Not known

William seems to have converted to the Baptist faith; his first 9 children were baptised in the C of E, but a 10th child, Sarah, is listed among the Rothley Baptist births in 1797, and some of William's grandchildren's births were registered in the Baptist church.

There is a William North christened at Rothley 15 Feb 1747, parents Daniel and Sarah. But your William doesn't seem to have named a son Daniel.

No, I have loads of Norths, and that name never comes up at all. Unfortunately North's an extremely common surname in the Rothley area, and it's really hard to sort out the different families.

There are several trees on Ancestry which have William North and Mary Haywood, but there's no source for the marriage, some of the trees are a total mess, and I haven't seen one yet that looks to be well researched.
