Default William John Laughlan - Cronberry, Auchinleck

William John Laughlan was born on 2 August 1858 at Cronberry, Auchinleck.

The spelling of Laughlan differs in most censuses. (It even finished up as Lochlin when he arrived in Australia in the Tiverton on 21 April 1884 with his wife Agnes, and daughter Mary aged 2.)

The reason for this may have been somewhere around 1878 when he joined the Grand Lodge of Scotland No. 73 (Thistle & Rose), Glasgow. Most of his siblings were born around Paisley, Renfrewshire, and his parents also William Laughlan and Jane Grieve were married in Partik Renfrewshire. He actually signed some papers to do with the lodge, and W. Lochlin.

All I need to know is where and when he became a baker - is there a bakery school in Scotland? He was a baker at the time of his first marriage in 1878. Family story is that it was Dundee, but I've not been successful in tracking him down.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
