Default Birth and census check please.

I have Richard Slaney born 9th Feb 1842, Mansfield W'house.
Thought that was Workhouse but could be Woodhouse...

No cert, just family records.
I want to buy the cert but Ancestry has Vol 15 Page 543. Looking at the image it looks like 542.

FreeBMD has page 543 and 542.

Does it look like the same person? Which page should I order the cert for??

Also this same Richard Slaney is missing (to me anyway) in 1851 and 1861.
His parents SHOULD be George and Ann.
He married in 1866.

Thanks.

On the original page it looks like Mansfield 15 542 to me.

In 1851 they are down as Haney! Parents George and Sarah, so maybe George had remarried?

Thanks Merry.....I saw the George and Sarah. That's why I want Richard's birth cert.

It should be OK if I put 542 as the page number???? Ancestry has 543 and FreeBMD has him on both??

I'm working off someone's very old tree and so far all the dates and names have been correct, but I dont have the certs.

Don't forget that the transcribed 19th century indexes on ancestry are just a copy of FreeBMD's anyway. Ancestry's copy is usually a little bit behind FreeBMD's, so I expect FreeBMD's one has been updated since Ancestry last loaded theirs. You just have to check the page number on the actual image and it is definitely 542. Most likely the person who transcribed it as 543 had an older scan to work from and couldn't see it very well.

I'm planning to call in at Notts Archives a bit later today, so I could have a look at Mansfield Woodhouse baptisms to see if I can see him in there to get the mother's first name, but you would have to get the cert to see her maiden name.

Er, just checked on FamilySearch and it does give his parents' names as George and Sarah on the IGI, extracted records, baptism date 9 Feb 1842. That means it should only take me a couple of minutes to look it up at the archives to check it's correct.

There is a likely marriage for the parents on the IGI 7 Dec 1829 Mansfield Woodhouse, George Slaney and Sarah Burgoine. There are some children's baptisms listed after Richard, but none before, but according to Hugh Wallis's site, the IGI doesn't have the Mansfield Woodhouse baptisms between 1829 and 1842, so I could also have a look through at the archives to see if they had some children between those dates. The ones on the IGI after Richard are: Thomas 6 Oct 1844 and Eliza 22 Mar 1846.

Thanks Kite............that marriage is it......Just got off the phone to the grandson of the fellow who did this tree and he has the notes (???? don't you love it...lol) that says "Ann" is actually Sarah Burgoin....no "e", but close enough for me. Apparently someone used to call her "Aunty Ann".

Sometimes you really feel like doing someone an injury...lol

If you feel like looking at anything, I'd be grateful, but not sure if there's anything else to look for now you've done all the work.

Thanks...
