Jeuel Jabez Gray 1875-1937
Birth
13 Nov 1875 Jeuel Jabez Gray, parents John Gray, farm labourer, and Ruth Gray, formerly Barnes, at Limpenhoe, Norfolk. [Limpenhoe is on the banks of the river Yare, about halfway between Norwich and Great Yarmouth] Jeuel is a Biblical name, mentioned in Chronicles. baptism 23 Jan 1876 St. Botolph's, Limpenhoe Jeuel had 7 brothers and two sisters, although his eldest brother died in childhood. 1881 Limpenhoe Jewel [sic] aged 5 scholar, at Limpenhoe with parents and siblings. His father is working as an ag lab 1891 Marsh Road, Common, Limpenhoe Jeul [sic] with parents and siblings. John is working as a railway labourer plate Several of Jeuel's brothers joined the police in London, but he was too short. He worked for the Cannon Brewery in Hoxton and in 1897 won a race at their annual Beanfeast. 1901 1, Forston Street, Shoreditch, London Jeuel Gray boarder 25 distillers servant [this is for Tanqueray Gordon] marriage 24 Jan 1907 St. Matthias, Stoke Newington, London Jeuel Jabez Gray, artist to Annie Eliza Matthews Both spouses were living at 34 Cowper Road, Stoke Newington, very close to the church. Jeuel was a boarder with Annie's mother and stepfather. From 1907- 1916 they lived at 22 Brook Street, Stoke Newington and had 3 sons: Jabez John Thomas b Dec 1907 Jeuel George 1910 Harry Samuel 1912 1911 22 Brooke Road, Stoke Newington Jeuel Jabez Gray 35 artist and enlarger of photos with wife Annie, sons Jabez and Jeuel and two lodgers (one of either sex) 1916 the family moved to 165 Church Street, Stoke Newington (now Stoke Newington Church Street), a shop with two-storey accommodation above. Jeuel was a gunner with the Royal Field Artillery and spent some time at Chilham Camp in Kent. 1917 Jeuel's last child, William Frederick Randall Gray was born at 165 Stoke Newington Church Street. In various directories from 1917-1938 Jeuel is listed as a photographer, photos artist, picture frame maker. Death 14 Oct 1937 at Hackney Hospital, of hypertension & arteriosclerosis Burial date unknown Southgate Cemetery, North London
