I think you have the wrong death as the 1879 one is living in Bridgwater in 1861/71 and has a different family. I think this one is yours:

Deaths Dec 1857
Coles Jonas Williton 5c 257

as Williton covers Stogursey.

Stogursey baps etc are online, but I don't see a bap for Jonas

http://www.wsom.org.uk/Parreg.html

Maybe his family were non-conformist or he was baptised elsewhere.

That Huntspill baptism is also on the Huntspill transcriptions:
http://www.durtnall.org.uk/Huntspill/BAPTISMS.htm

But it doesn't say anything about them not living at Huntspill.

(edit - snap, Merry!)

The Huntspill parents were buried there in the 1820s (ie no apparent early move to Stogursey) so maybe that family are a red herring?

Thanks for all these prompts, I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

I will admit to being concerned about that death I had for him. One of those things, it's been on my file for years and haven't got the cert yet! I'll review that as well.

I agree, he doesn't seem to be there, but a number of his children are, so it's the right parish for something!

I don't think the Huntspill family are the right one, fascinating that the name is right, I've never come across a Jonas before and I would have loved that father's name in my tree! But I'm sure he is in censuses as a gardener/farmer. Thanks to both of you for all those Somerset links !

Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I first saw the Huntspill bap on the IGI I thought the place seemed familiar in some way...........Of course, five minutes earlier I had seen the chap on the census whose death reg you had in 1879. He is the one bap in Huntspill
