At last I have found his baptism, thanks to first finding him on FreeREG as a witness to the marriage of a Robert Lydiard in 1765, and then finding a public tree on ancestry which had Robert and Peter as brothers. The tree owner had very kindly explained how to find all the records on FreeREG - Peter's surname is spelt as Leedet on his baptism, which I would never have thought of!
