The Josiah Bennet that Shona found was also base born. Curiouser and curiouser. There is yet another odd one - James Bennett son of William Dudley and Hannah Bennett,1804 Dorking.

I can't see a marriage but would Hannah have still been of child bearing age? Or is it one of her daughters?

The James Bennett baptised in 1804 (son of William Dudley and Hannah Bennett) was born 12 Nov 1787 according to the baptism entry.

30 May 1790 baptism at Dorking St Martin, Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Nye. Maybe just a coincidence but worth looking into?

Oh, there are loads of children of Thomas and Hannah Nye so I expect it is just a coincidence. Sorry.

I couldn't make out the birth date so that makes it doubly interesting. Wonder if William Dudley is the father of the twins?
However, it's beginning to look as if the Base born Elizabeth died when only a few months old and therefore can't be mine.
Back to the drawing board. Thanks for helping me to see through the muddle, Kite.
