Default Volunteering as a transcriber

Ever thought about helping to transcribe those old handwritten documents so they can be indexed and searched online?

There are various transcription projects going on which you might like to consider (please post details of any more that you know of):

FreeBMD, which I'm sure needs no introduction!

And its sister projects:
FreeCEN (censuses)
http://www.freecen.org.uk/

and FreeREG (parish registers)
http://www.freereg.org.uk/

CLIPS crew lists (oops, haven't done any of that since I got back from my holiday!):

Family Search Indexing

Ancestry World Archives Project

(sorry but I have heard the software used for this isn't compatible with the Apple Mac yet).

Thank you Kite for bringing these worthy genealogical causes to everyone's attention. I transcribe for FreeREG and find it really rewarding. I enjoy putting these transcriptions on the net so that other family historians (especialy those who find it difficult to travel to record offices) can trace their ancestors and relatives. I must admit I've found a few of my own ancestors while transcribing for FreeREG.

FreeREG is always pleased to get fresh blood.

Cheers, FHA
