I found the official enquiry into the abandonment and sinking of the Champion of the Seas, about 20 years after my g-g-grandfather sailed her between Liverpool and Melbourne in the 1850s. And the enquiry into the burning of her sister ship Marco Polo in Liverpool docks.

I thought it was really interesting how the Government repatriated soldiers from India who didn't re-sign in the Indian regiments. Some ended up in the workhouse when they arrived and were sick due to the lack of adequate supplies on board ship.

Really nice site and worth a look for anyone as it isn't just Merseyside which is mentioned, but a must if you have that area like I do, really good find thanks
