Default John Smoothy of Essex, 1776-1861

John Smoothy born 20 June 1776, Coggeshall, Essex, parents John & Elizabeth.

baptised 28 July 1776 at St. Peter Ad Vincula, Coggeshall, Essex.
{on the same page of the baptism register, further down is the baptism of his future wife, Elizabeth Willsher on 25 Sep 1776}

Marriage
04 July 1805 at St. Mary's, Chelmsford Essex
John Smoothy & Elizabeth Wiltshire.

baptism of children, all at St. Mary's, Chelmsford:
William 1807
Eliza 1810
John 1812
Charles 1816 [address on his baptism is Moulsham, a suburb of Chelmsford]
Elizabeth 1820 [address on her baptism is Clapham's Tenements, which was off Springfield Road, Chelmsford]

12 Aug 1832 burial of Elizabeth Smoothy, probably John's wife.

1841 - not found
I have checked all 13 pages of Chelmsford without finding John, though I did find a George Smoothy aged 20. Unable to tie him in anywhere.

1851
Queen Street, Moulsham, Chelmsford, Essex
John Smoothy 74 lodger widowed b. Coggeshall. In receipt of parish relief.

Death
25 January 1861
John Smoothy, aged 84, labourer, of old age, at New Writtle Street, Chelmsford.

burial - not found

I had a look in 1841 and couldn't see him either.

The only John born 1776 is in Birdbrook with wife(?) Sarah. Any chance your chap remarried after Elizabeth died? And is listed with her children under his name?

OK, it's a bit of stretch

Thank you so much for looking. There are a separate lot of Smoothys in Birdbrook. I think they probably tie in with my lot further back.
